In the third quarter of 2010, Intel will introduce a new dual-core chip for netbooks. Processor Intel Atom D550 will have a clock speed of 1.5 gigahertz and 8.5 watt power consumption, says Fudzilla. This processor is expected to become the first dual-core chip, Intel, designed for netbooks. As released in 2008 Atom 330 chip for desktops, D550 will have a megabyte of cache. The cost of the system based on the new chip will be from 349 to 399 dollars. Recommended configuration, in addition to the chip Atom, will include a gigabyte of RAM DDR3 and SSD capacity of 20 or 32 gigabytes, or the hard disk of 250 gigabytes.
In this new Atom chips do not replace existing line of single-core chips for netbooks, but complement it. It is expected that the new processors will significantly increase the performance of Netbooks, especially while running multiple demanding applications.
According to IDC, in the first quarter of 2010 worldwide sold 4.8 million netbooks worth up to $ 500. Last year this figure rose to 33.6 per cent, allowing analysts to conclude that stabilization of demand for such devices. For comparison, in the first quarter of 2009 netbook market has grown in 9,3 times.
